about

In this song I created a melody from a tone row based one some little tone pyramids I made out of paper. In my mind, the pyramid sits inside of a sphere - it has four faces and three sides to each face, and references the marriage of humankind and imperfection (the tetrad, symbolized by the number four, the faces of the pyramid) to divinity and perfection (the triad, symbolized by the number three, or the sides of each face of the pyramid, and the sphere, which erases all angles and is a perfect representation of a Platonic divinity). The tone pyramids marry a diminished tetrad, representing humankind, to an augmented triad, representing divinity. The first solo is based on different harmonic choices that are available and are built on a lattice of harmonic paths, moving between diminished, dominant, and augmented chords; the second solo centers on a form created by the initial melody of the piece.
